ICLI Statement on Attack in Finsbury Park, London

WESTBURY, New York (June 19, 2017) –

We, the members of the Islamic Center of Long Island, are saddened and horrified to learn of the attack in Finsbury Park, in North London in which a van rammed into a group of worshippers leaving their local mosque after having gathered for special prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. The attack left one person dead and many wounded at the scene.

Islam strictly condemns any kind of aggression and the use of violence and the taking of human life. Targeting civilians’ lives through any method of attack is forbidden and those who commit these acts are criminals.

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states: “Whoever kills a person, it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” (Qur’an,5:32)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families as they recover and we wish them a speedy recovery.
