ICLI Highlights 2016

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: December 2015 to January 2016

November 22 – ICLI’s annual fundraising dinner was held at Garden City Hotel with this year’s theme being, “Celebrating ICLI Community: Long Island and Beyond”. Keynote speaker was Amy Goodman, anchor and executive producer of Democracy Now. Over 350 guests were in attendance.

December 4 – ICLI Youth Committee held their monthly halaqah, with this month’s topic being, “Confidence”. These gatherings are open to students, ages 13 and over and all are encouraged to give their input. The gatherings are well attended by Sunday school students, and Muslim youth across Long Island.

December 6 – Br. Azhar Bhatt, ICLI member and neighbor, participated as a speaker at Molloy College Institute for Interfaith Dialogue. The theme of the event was, “Philosophers and Humanists” and Br. Azhar’s talk focused on how Prophet Muhammad (saws) embodied these qualities.

December 10 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was a panelist at Adelphi’s Breast Cancer Program to speak about how spirituality impacts a diagnosis of cancer or serious illness from the Islamic Perspective.

December 11 – Dr. Mahan Mirza, Dean of Faculty from Zaytuna College, gave a talk at ICLI about “Islamic Intellectual History: A Legacy of Reason and Debate”.  He also engaged the Youth Committee at a later session on “Our Muslim Identity”, arranged by Dr. Isma Chaudhry.

December 13 – The yearly General Body Meeting was held at ICLI and the Executive Committee updated the community on the center’s financial status, Sunday school, expansion project and the goals and plans for 2016.

December 18 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry participated in talks about “The Changing Dynamics of Islamophobia and Its Implications on Peaceful and Inclusive Societies” hosted by the United Nations. Dr. Isma Chaudhry’s talk focused on, Islamophobia: Challenges & Strategies for Grassroot Organizations.

December 19 – ICLI Youth Committee held a fireside qiyam to share stories of the unseen and to bond over games and pizza.

December 20 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Br. Habeeb Ahmed and Mufti Mohammad Farhan participated in a radio interview with Louis Telano at WGBB AM 1240. Many of the questions revolved around the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and the anti-Muslim sentiments that are prevalent in society. There is also a possibility that ICLI will be hosting a radio program with them on a weekly basis.

December 26 – Sr. Noreen Kazi organized a trip to the ice skating center in Oyster Bay for the Youth Committee. It was well attended by Sunday School parents and students.

January 11 -13 – Mufti Mohammad Farhan held a lecture series on the Life of Prophet Eesa.

January 11 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry participated on a panel discussion about Women in Religion at The Transition Network.

January 12 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry participated at an in-service curriculum for New Hyde Park High Schools.

January 15 – The Youth Committee with the help of the South Asian Softball League were able to secure a limited number of discounted tickets to the Brooklyn Nets vs the Portland Trailblazers basketball game at Barclays Center. They were given a private area and honored with halal food by Barclays Center (Arranged by Noreen Kazi).

January 17 – Youth Committee together with participants of Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) put together a spirit video for their team to show the MIST judges that they have the skills and strengths needed to participate in the tournaments.

January 17 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry hosted a religious education class from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation from Shelter Rock to present a talk on Islam 101 and Youth in Islam.

January 17 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry spoke at an Ecumenical Celebration at Zion Cathedral Church honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. Her topic was on, “Civil Liberties: An Islamic Perspective”.

January 18 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry and Mufti Mohammad Farhan spoke at Nassau County’s MLK Celebration and ICLI was honored with an award for progressive and effective advocacy of interfaith harmony in a multicultural environment.

January 18 – Dr. Faroque Khan represented ICLI at an MLK celebration sponsored by NAACP at the Westbury, “Yes We Can” community center. Several local politicians and civic leaders were in attendance and Dr. Khan made some remarks highlighting the impact of civil rights movement which facilitated the immigration of non-Europeans like himself and many members of ICLI.

January 22 – Youth Committee monthly halaqah held a discussion on forgiveness and the mercy of Allah (swt).

January 24 – Sr. Zainab Bey arranged a book talk for Salaam Group members. The group went over the book, “Reclaim Your Heart”, by Yasmin Mogahed.

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: February to March  2016

January 30 – ICLI Youth Committee held an event, “Cards for Kids” where Muslim youth got together to make get well cards for children in Stony Brook Hospital. The cards were delivered the next day to children with long-term illnesses.

February 4 – Dr. Faroque Khan spoke at an event, sponsored by OIC, on the issue of xenophobia/Islamophobia in the United Nations.

February 12 – ICLI Youth Committee held an informal gathering for the upper grades of Sunday School at Choopan Grill in order for them to get to know one another.

February 14 – Sr. Zainab Bey arranged a book talk for Salaam Group members. The group went over the book, “Reclaim Your Heart”, by Yasmin Mogahed.

February 19 – ICLI Girl Scouts held cookie sales at Broadway Mall.

February 20 – Sr. Seemi Ahmed was invited to speak about Islamophobia at the Social Action Luncheon of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at Molloy College. (This is one of the four major sororities in America. Loretta Lynch who was the Attorney General and who visited ICLI once, also is a member of this sorority).

February 28 – March 1 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was an invited speaker at the United States Institute of Peace, Washington D.C on a conference, “Prevention of Incitement that could lead to Atrocity Crimes”.

February 28 – ICLI’s 13th Annual Black History Month Celebration was organized by Sr. Zainab Bey with this year’s theme being “Celebrating the Legacy of African American Community Leaders, Past and Present”. Speakers included Br. Khalid S. Lateef, Mr. Gregory Lewis, Ms. Bernice Sims and Rev. Nellie Taylor-Walthrust.

February 28 – ICLI Youth Committee held a “Youth Family Bowling Bash” to fundraise for their budding committee.

February 29 – Dr. Kausar Zaman was an invited speaker at “He Named Me Malala” movie screening at East Meadow Public Library to speak on, “Women in Islam”.

March 2 – Dr. Faroque Khan was invited to speak at Waldorf Garden City School to present a discussion on Islam 101 to 11th grade students.

March 3 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was inducted on the “Powerlist 2015 – Long Island’s 50 Most Influential People” by the Long Island Press.

March 4 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was invited to Westbury United Methodist Church for, “World Day of Prayer”, where women of many faith traditions come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March.

March 6 – ICLI and DHF held a joint seminar “Healthy Relationships” on how to resolve conflicts, the rights and responsibilities of men and women and how to maintain healthy relationships. Speakers included, Mufti Farhan, Ms. Dodie A. Gillett, and Ms. Menahal Begawala.

March 6 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was an invited speaker at Ethical Humanist Society to speak on “Sharia and Islamophobia”.

March 9 – Dr. Faroque Khan presented a talk on, “End of Life Care” from the Islamic Perspective at NYCOM/NYIT in Old Westbury.

March 10 – Sr. Seemi Ahmed was the guest speaker at the Interfaith Council of Oceanside monthly meeting, at First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside. They have been holding Christian – Jewish dialogue for 25 years and want to include Muslim participation going forward.

March 10 – Dr. Faroque Khan was on the panel at NYIT during, “Islam Awareness Week”, to speak on the issue of Islamophobia – sponsored by the MSA.

March 11- Dr. Isma Chaudhry and Br. Habeeb Ahmed were invited guests for the movie screening of, “He Named Me Malala” at the Westbury United Methodist Church. Dr. Isma Chaudhry spoke on the topics of, women, Islam and sharia.

March 11 – Br. Habeeb Ahmed hosted non-Muslim students from NYIT who paid a visit to ICLI for lunch and to ask questions on Islam.

March 12 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry presented a talk, “Women in Islam” at the Urban League of Long Island.

March 12 – Sr. Noreen Kazi hosted the boys from the ICLI Youth Committee at her home for a fun-filled day of games and sports.  

March 12 – The girls from the ICLI Youth Committee attended an all-girls painting class hosted by Mubarakville, a Muslim lifestyle store in Hicksville.

March 16 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry was honored at the 23rd Annual Town of North Hempstead Women’s Roll of Honor.

March 20 – Book Fair held during Sunday School hours in conjunction with Taqwa Media, who supplied the books, dvds, puzzles and games for purchase – 20% of the proceeds were donated to ICLI.

March 20 – ICLI Girl Scouts cookie sale held at ICLI during Sunday school hours.

March 20 – Sunday school Parent Teacher Conferences

March 20 – Talk and Tea for seniors – very first meeting in what we hope will be the beginning of many more conversations to come.

March 26 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry presented a talk on, “Women & Shariah” at the Turkish Cultural Center.

March 27 – ICLI Girl Scouts cookie sale held at ICLI during Sunday school.

March 27 – Sunday school Parent Teacher Conferences.

March 29 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry represented ICLI at the Executive Research Forum hosted by Nasaau County Police Commissioner on Communities and their relationship with law enforcement agencies.

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: April  to May  2016

April 5 – Dr. Faroque Khan co-sponsored an event with Temple Sinai under Interfaith Institute of ICLI called, “Unlikely Partners for Peace: An Orthodox Settler and a Palestinian Peace Activist: Rabbi Hanan Schlesiinger and Ali Abu Awwad”.

April 7-9 – Imam Ibrahim Negm held a three-day presentation “Upholding Moderation and Resisting Radicalization” to speak about the Islamic faith and how to dismantle radical thoughts.

April 9 – Seemi Ahmed attended an event at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation where Claire De Roche of UU was awarded the Annual Peacemaker of the Year Award by Pax Christi.

April 11 Joe from St. Iqnatious Loyola from Hicksville was welcomed with donated clothing and food for the needy in his congregation.

April 11 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry and Seemi Ahmed planned a meeting for a conference on forgiveness in September at Temple Beth El.

April 13 – Seemi Ahmed was a panelist at an event at Hofstra that was sponsored by The Interfaith Alliance, ICLI, and the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives. It was titled “Racism, Islamophobia and the 2016 Elections.

April 13 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry hosted Professor Hunsberger’s class from SUNY Old Westbury and discussed the basic beliefs of Islam.

April 15 – Habeeb Ahmed, Irfan Amin, Isma Chaudhry and Mohammad Habeebuddin met with Rabbi Ben Herman from Jericho Jewish Center to explain the parts of the Jummah prayer and discussed future dialogue between houses of worship.

April 16 – Seemi Ahmed hosted Dr. Tom Mangano’s leadership class (this group consisted of teachers who were training to become school principals and superintendents) at ICLI.

April 23 – The girls from the ICLI Youth Committee attended an all-girls jewelry making workshop.

April 29 – Seemi Ahmed hosted two St. Lutheran’s congregations during Jummah prayers and facilitated discussion between the members of the community and Pastors Emily Trubey- Weller and Reverend Justin Kosec.

May 5 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Dr. Irfan Amin, and Br. Habeebuddin Mohammed attended an Interfaith discussion with Rabbi Jeffrey Gale of Hebrew Tabernacle in North Manhattan on the concept of “Sulha”

May 6 Dr. Faroque Khan and Sr. Seema Rahman organized an event under Interfaith Institute of ICLI, “True Jihad – An American Perspective” with Rais Bhuiyan, founder of, “A World Without Hate”. Mr. Bhuiyan shared how his experience with a white supremacist sparked his path to peace and human rights activism.

May 7 ICLI’s 2nd annual community fundraising event was held for building expansion project. Speakers were Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Mufti Farhan. The Ibrahim Lunat Memorial Awards were handed to Al Amin Abdullatif, Kashif Aziz, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Jabbar, Ahmadullah Kamal, and Imam Abaidullah Rana. Also the Asim Munawar Memorial Youth Service Award was given to Mufti Farhan.

May 9 Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Dr. Irfan Amin, Br. Habeebuddin Mohammed, and Br. Habeeb Ahmed held a meeting with Jericho Jewish Center on community building initiatives and Interfaith Dialogue.

May 9 – Sunday School Registration Began

May 11 Dr. Isma Chaudhry hosted Professor Hunsberger’s class from SUNY Old Westbury and spoke about, “Sharia & Women”.

May 12 Seemi Ahmed presented the Islamic perspective and practices at end of life in Temple Sinai Roslyn to explain how Muslims minister to people and their families at the end of life. This interfaith discussion was led by Rabbi Michael White and included Reverend John Overbold.

May 13 – ICLI hosted the Rohingya Muslim Crisis Update with Imam Malik Mujahid, Soundvision; Burma Task Force; former Chair of Parliament of World Religions

May 18 – Br. Habeeb Ahmed and Javed Munawar attended the Senior Award Ceremony in Carle Place School District on behalf of ICLI and presented an award to a deserving senior.

May 21 – Indian Muslim Relief and Charities Fundraising Event held at ICLI to raise awareness and funds for brothers and sisters in India.

May 22 – The ICLI Youth Committee and Stony Brook Muslim Alumni hosted a Career Exploration and Mentorship Expo. The event included professionals from various fields who discussed their careers and industries with provided Q & As. Mentorship opportunities with these professionals was available. Event was well attended by high school students, college students & parents.

May 24 – Dr. Kausar Zaman hosted a Multi-Faith Board Meeting with the Long Island Council of Churches. 10-12 people attended.

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: June to July  2016

May 29 – Dr. Isma represented ICLI at the Police Executive Research Forum

June 1 – Meeting in Police Department- members of different masjids met with the police force to create a channel of communications with Muslims and the law enforcement. Officers distributed numbers after the program.

June 2 – Westbury High School Senior Award Ceremony presented by Zainab Bey.

June 3 – Sr. Seemi Ahmed was a panelist at the annual Palliative Care Conference held on June 3, 2016 at Molloy College and spoke from the Islamic perspective.

June 5 – Sunday School Graduation.

June 5 – Salaam Group, “Welcoming Ramadan”.

June 6 – Hicksville High School Senior Award Ceremony presented by Sr. Nadia Pervez.

June 7 – Dr. Kaleem Rizvon made a presentation at the NUMC Chairs meeting to elicit support for the health fair which will take place either Sept. 18 or 25 at ICLI.

June 8 – Syosset High School Senior Award Ceremony presented by Br. Nasir Farooqi.

June 10 – Herrick’s High School Senior Award Ceremony presented by Dr. Safdar Chadda.

June 12 – Sisters youth halaqa begins weekly, held by Sr. Sadaf.

June 13 – Jericho Senior Award Ceremony presented by Dr. Afzal Sheikh.

June 14 – Dr. Isma represented ICLI at the JCRC Interfaith Youth Gathering

June 15 – Interfaith Iftar

June 16 – Sr. Seemi Ahmed spoke at the Cancer Survivors Day held annually by Mercy Medical Center.

June 18 – ICKids graduation

June 18 – Youth Qiyam was held with a lecture from Omar Shareef from MIST. Program was well attended by youth followed by Qiyam-Ul-Layl after the lecture.

June 19 – Dr. Isma represented ICLI at the Ethical Humanists: Islam 101 and Challenges for Muslim Organizations in current times of Islamophobia

June 22 – EAC Network (Empower, Assist, Care) had a Ceremony of Appreciation where ICLI was honored for their involvement in the community service program.

June 30 – Youth Forum was held with Imam Negm from Asr to Maghrib. Separate sessions were conducted for sister and brothers.

July 3 – Khatm of the Quran during the 29th night of Ramadan

July 4 – Dr. Isma and Br. Habeeb represented ICLI at the Village of Westbury Welcomes Governor Cuomo event where village of Westbury was awarded ten million dollars.

July 5 – Court date attended by Habeeb Ahmed.

July 6 – Eid-Ul-Fitr salah was held at Mitchel Indoor Athletic Complex. Upon completion of prayer volunteers handed out goody bags to young children. Imam Ibrahim Negm, Dr. Isma Chaudhry, and Habeeb Ahmed spoke to the media on challenges faced by American Muslims in terms of Islamophobia and terrorism.

July 8 – Eid & Graduation Party for the Youth.

July 8 – Pump It Up Eid celebration for children below 3.

July 10 – Dr. Isma represented ICLI at the Anti-Violence Interfaith service at Jackson Memorial Church in Hempstead

July 11 – Summer Quran Classes begin. Will be held Monday – Thursday 9 AM – 1 PM.

July 17 – Sister’s English Halaqa resumes every Sunday from 10 AM – 12 PM.

July 23 – English Halaqa Eid Party

(no date) – Sr. Shakirah participated in the National Night as a planning committee meeting.

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: August to September  2016

August 2- Dr. Isma Chaudhry presented a talk on “Islam and Civic Engagement” at the Center for Suburban Studies.

August 3 – Youth leaders from the Young Ambassadors School in Israel shared their experiences volunteering with Syrian refugees through the Model United Nations Program. Event was hosted by Dr. Faroque Khan and Sr. Seema Rahman.

August 9 Dr. Isma Chaudhry presented a talk, “Islam and Women” at Women in Faith meeting and program at Commack.

August 10- Forgiveness Conference Meeting at Temple Beth El attended by Dr. Irfan Amin, Sister Zainab Bey and Dr. Isma Chaudhry.

August 29- Women’s Hajj Session led by Sr. Samina Qureshi.

September 1 – IC Kids Orientation. This is the day the parents get to meet with the teachers and learn more about the day to day activities of the classroom.

September 6 – CBS TV SeriesMadam Secretary” filmed a scene at ICLI.

September 6 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry attended a multi-faith program at St. Stephens’s Lutheran Church to honor the 15th anniversary of 9/11 and offer a prayer from the Muslim tradition.

September 6 – First day of IC Kids 9:30-3:30. IC kids program is designed for ages 3 and 4 in which students get a head start in both English and Islamic curriculum.

September 9- Teachers Orientation meeting for Saturday classes led by Sister Noreen Kazi.

September 10- Youth Committee + Islamic Relief Toy Drive arranged by Sister Noreen Kazi.

September 11 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry attended the Town of North Hempstead 9/11 Memorial Ceremony held at Mary Jane Davies Green in Manhasset.

September 11- ICLI held a Plaque Ceremony for the 15th Anniversary of 9/11 with guests like County Executive Ed Mangano, Mayor of Westbury Peter Cavallaro and many other political parties.

September 12- Eid ul-Adha held at Mitchell Field Athletic Complex with two Salah timings.

September 13- Dr. Isma Chaudhry was a panelist at Hofstra University for a talk titled, “Irrational Fears: Understanding the Impact of Islamophobia on American Muslims.

September 13 – Teachers Orientation Meeting for Sunday classes led by Sister Beenish Saeed.

September 14 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry hosted a group of students who are enrolled in a World Religions class at Hofstra University to learn more about the basic tenants of Islam.

September 16 – ICLI held it’s Inauguration for the New Building with guest speakers, Mayor of Westbury Peter Cavallaro, New York State Comptroller, Thomas DiNapoli, U.S Congresswoman Grace Meng, and many more.

September 17 – First day of Saturday School.

September 18 – First day of Sunday School.

September 18 – Health Fair took place at ICLI, organized by Dr. Kaleem Rizvon in collaboration with NUMC and NuHealth. Services such as blood pressure check, mammograms and information on advance care planning was offered.

September 19 – First day of Quran classes with Sr. Samina Qureshi.

September 22 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry presented a lecture on Shariah at the Rotary Club at a panel hosted by Rabbi Art Brennan.

September 23 – ICLI Youth Committee held a community talk, “Stories of Refugees” lead by Sr. Hana Baig about her visit to Jordan and the Syrian and Palestinian refugees.

ICLI Events Timeline Highlights: September to November 2016

On-going – Every Monday, Sisters Halaqah held in Urdu to review tafseer of Quran.

                   Every Thursday, Sisters Halaqah held in Urdu to review, tajweed, hadith, Arabic grammar.

                   Every Saturday, Sisters Halaqah held in English to review tajweed, tafseer, hadith.

      Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday – Quran classes offered by Sr. Samina Qureshi for young boys and girls in order to recognize all Arabic letters and recite Quran with proper pronunciation. Those who complete Quran move on to Hifz program, memorization of whole Quran, with Hafiz Adil.

September 25 – Cub Scouts informational meeting held to gauge interest from the community to discuss the creation of an exciting new program for our boys in grades 1 through 5.

October 1 – ICLI started offering Taekwondo classes for registered students with Br. Soulat Khan, qualified Dragon Martial Arts instructor. Classes help youth develop discipline and respect through exercise and form and to build their motor and memory response skills.

October 8 – The Interfaith Institute of the Islamic Center of Long Island held its first annual awards event, “Building Bridges of Faith” and honored Dr. Larycia Hawkins, Former Professor at Wheaton College who wore the hijab to stand in solidarity with Muslims.

October 9 – Salaam Group’s yearly Fall Social Event took place to help like-minded people from all walks of life get together to discuss their common interest in Islam and for the Salam Group coordinators to inform them of the many classes and activities they can get involved with at the Center.

October 9- A dozen members of ICLI attended a round table discussion about comparative faith study at Molloy College in Rockville Centre.

October 14 – After receiving high interest from the community, the first Cub Scouts meeting took place with ICLI member and trained Cub Scouts leader, Dr. Zachary Ibrahim. They meet every other week and engage in leadership training and life skills.

October 20 – Forum with ICLI member, Dr. Uzma Syed, on, “How to get Eid approved in your school district”. Dr. Syed was the first of our community to successfully have Eid recognized as an official school holiday in the Syosset School District.

October 21 – ICLI Youth had its weekly mini-series on stories from the Quran, this week’s topic being, “Story of Musa – Leading the Israelites out of Egypt”.

October 29 – ICLI Youth Committee hosted a community forum with Hon. Michael Balboni, in an engaging talk-show style format, the center of focus being how Muslim students can effectively engage in discussions about Islam and present day US politics on campuses.

October 29- ICLI was a sponsor of Breast Cancer Awareness at Hempstead Town Hall.

November 3- Members of ICLI had a table at Long Island Council of Churches Program: Share the Harvest Helping Neighbors in Need. Retired Executive Director Reverend Tom Goodhue was honored and food was distributed to poor people on Long Island

November 6- The first weekly adult education program took place with Dr. Nasar Shahid to discuss the Muslim Community, Civic Responsibility and the 2016 Elections. The spiritual series was covered by Dr. Mufti Farhan who went over, “The Forty Hadiths of Imam Nawawi”.

November 9- Dr. Faroque Khan hosted students from SUNY Old Westbury, who are enrolled in an Islamic Cultures course, and discussed the core concepts of Islam and the role the mosque plays in the community.

November 10- Dr. Isma Chaudhry attended “Abraham’s Table” gathering at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center, with other faith leaders who all explained traditions of their faith and answered questions from the audience.

November 11- The ICLI Youth Committee had their monthly talk of stories from the Quran. This week it was “The Boy and The King” a story from Surah Al-Burooj.

November 11- Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Br. Habeeb Ahmed and Sr. Seemi Ahmed attended a Sabbath service at Temple Beth-El.

November 12, 13 – Dr. Isma Chaudhry addressed post-election jitters and anxiety with weekend school students, teachers and parents. How to address post-election jitters with our youth. Forum for student teachers and parents.

November 13 – ICLI’s Weekly Adult Education program scheduled to discuss post-election analysis with Dr. Nasar Shahid and to continue the study of, “Forty Hadeeth” of Imam Nawawi.

November 13- Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Br. Habeeb Ahmed and Sr. Seemi Ahmed attended an Interfaith Forgiveness Conference at Temple Beth-El, with Mufti Farhan being one of the speakers. It was an interfaith forum, featuring Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist leaders.

November 13- Dr. Isma Chaudhry was an invited speaker at the Interfaith Thanksgiving service at Temple Tikvah in New Hyde Park.

November 13- Br. Habeeb Ahmed and a few members of the masjid attended the 10th Year Anniversary of Reverend Dwight Wolter for his service to the congregational church in Patchogue.

November 14- Dr. Faroque Khan hosted a second group of students from SUNY Old Westbury, enrolled in an Islamic Cultures course, to discuss the core concepts of Islam and the role the mosque plays in the community.

November 15- Dr. Isma Chaudhry, Br. Habeeb Ahmed, Sr. Amina Shah, Sr. Afia Shah and Br. Habeebuddin Mohammed attended the Suburban Diversity Dinner at Hofstra University.

November 18- ICLI Youth Committee held a “Cookies & Convos” event led by Dr. Asad Baig. This event allowed the youth to talk about whatever was on their mind and learn about triumph from the Quran and Sunnah.

November 18- ICLI held a Pumpkin Painting class for adults with designer and artist, Sr. Nida Mirza.

November 18- ICLI Girl’s Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the Youth Committee are hosting a Winter Food Drive until the end of December. They request canned & dry food items for the drive.

November 20 – ICLI’s weekly adult education program held to discuss post-election jitters with Hon. Michael Balboni and Sheikh Ibrahim Negm. Study of Forty Hadeeth was continued with Dr. Mufti Mohammed Farhan.

November 20- ICLI’s Annual Fundraising Dinner was held at the Garden City Hotel with this year’s theme being, “American Muslims Grassroots: Engagement and Beyond.” Speakers included Congresswoman Grace Meng, representative of the 6th District of New York; Sheikh Ibrahim Negm, resident scholar; and Sr. Linda Sarsour, civil rights activist. About 400 guests were in attendance.

 November 20 Dr. Faroque Khan presented a tribute to retiring Pastor Hank Lay at Parkway Community Church Dinner with over 350 attendees.

November 21- Sheikh Ibrahim Negm hosted a general open forum where the community could bring up any types of questions or concerns that they had.

November 21- Br. Habeeb Ahmed attended an Interfaith Thanksgiving service at Temple Sinai in Roslyn with members of the community.

November 23 Dr. Faroque Khan spoke on the Muslim perspective at a multi-faith Thanksgiving Celebration, at The Parkway Community Church in Hicksville on behalf of ICLI.
